Secret Sources: 5 Overlooked Places to Get More Coupons

Every KCL knows the Sunday paper and online sites are the best places to get coupons. But don’t overlook these five other options to get even more savings:
1. Your Health Care Provider: The next time you visit the doctor or dentist, take a look at their magazine and pamphlet rack. You’ll be surprised at the many manufacturer coupons and even free product samples. Many of these coupons are high-value with extended expiration dates, and some include 30-day supplies of certain medications. A recent trip to the pediatrician’s office yielded (no size limits):
  • $2.00 off ALL sensitive skin laundry detergent.
  • $2.00 off Lil’ Critter Vitamins, including free samples for their chewy multivitamin and calcium chews.
  • $3.00 off A&D ointment.
  • Advil children and adult formulas $3.00 coupon for each.
2. The Deli Counter: The next time you are at the deli counter, look for manufacturer coupons. Often there’s a wide selection of coupons for at least $1.00 off meats and cheeses. Grab a few to use, save, or take to another store. A recent trip to Albertsons landed me:
  • $1.00 off any ½ pound of Sara Lee deli meat.
  • $1.00 off ½ pound of Land O’ Lakes Swiss cheese.
  • $1.00 off ½ pound of Columbus deli meat (this can be used at Trader Joe’s!)
3. In-Store Samples: More and more, stores are offering  samples to introduce new products. Try it first and nab some coupons! If you aren’t interested in tasting a product, politely decline, but ask for a coupon for future use. A recent trip to Vons scored me:
  • $1.00 off coupons to their new organic line of products.
4. Newsletters and Cell Phones: Sign up for the newsletters and texts from your favorite brands, products and pharmacies. Chances are, you’ll receive an exclusive coupon in your inbox or on your smartphone. I receive weekly Rite Aid and CVS emails with great deals linked to my loyalty cards, such as $3.00 off nail polish or a big bag of M&M’s for only $1.88. I often receive BOGO free product coupons and other promotions I can save until a great deal comes along.
5. Inside The Products: This might not be a place you’re used to looking. The next time you open a box of cereal, supplements, cleanser, or soda, take a peek inside the packaging and information pamphlets. Many include coupons with extended expiration dates. I’ve recently come across:
  • $25.00 in coupons from Renew Life’s product insert.
  • $3.00 off any Ecotrin purchase (no size limit).
  • Free subscription to magazine, just send in the box’s UPC code.
  • Free clothing, just send in the box’s UPC code.
While there are certainly other sources of obtaining coupons like peelies, blinkies and wine tags, these ‘who-woulda-thought’ areas can help you save with very little effort.
